It all started at a wonderful arts & crafts show sponsored by the Wilton Historical Society in Wilton, CT, which we have attended as a patron for many years. This past year we bought a checkerboard there from a mid-west crafter. We knew when we saw it that the colors would work, we knew exactly where it would go …we brought it home!

As a professional furniture manufacturer (in a life many years ago) and stained glass hobbyist, every time I looked at that piece I said, “what if?” Well, I purchased some material, dusted off the tools that had been dormant and started to experiment. I opened the paint cans with the primary and accent colors from my son’s most recent bedroom redecoration, and began.

It was so much fun… I was creating again. There are now checkerboards everywhere throughout our home and each one color coordinated to its location in one way or another. For some reason the strict geometry of the checkerboard appeals to me, therefore it is a part of every one of our creations. What makes it fun is the constant variation of the theme, from just a simple two color combination, to the mirrors, to the imagination and whimsy of Carla’s creations. Taking advantage of the unique wood grain of each piece of material or not, using the soft historical colors, dark primitives or the bright primaries, adding a dimension, pyrography. Every checkerboard is a completely hand made adventure, no two are ever alike.

Now, in taking our art to the public we have added another dimension, the creative juices of our customers, YOU! We create SPECIAL ORDERS to your specifications, fulfilling your ideas to fit your environment or gift giving requirements. Pick the colors from the palettes of the major paint manufacturers (Benj. Moore, Behr, Ralph Lauren Polo, etc.) …we are located in and produce all of our products in Southern New England, in the Town of Trumbull, Fairfield County, Connecticut and have access to just about every quality brand of paint and finishing products, through their numerous retail outlets.

No stencils, No screens, No Jigs, No templates, No Automation, No two are alike! … all of our checkerboards and checker board mirrors are individually designed, hand crafted and painted to your specification or our creative mood of the day. Some would call us primitive … we call it so much fun!

Use
Because we design and craft our mirrors as wall decoration to be displayed, we do not advise that children play with them. Adults should not play with them either, but put them in a place where they can be viewed and enjoyed. However, we have been known to supply checkers to those who ask!!!

Please note: We do charge for custom colors, but only what the dealers charge us for the paint. Also, all of our checkerboard items are made from natural wood. This means that natural processes such as warping, twisting, shrinking, swelling and cracking may occur. We feel that since we are creating pieces that are made to look older than they actually are, that the natural processes which may occur, only add to the charm of the piece itself. Also, we create our pieces as decorative wall art, though they have the look of functional game boards. We do not ship game pieces and recommend that the boards not be used as toys for young children.
